Our pediatrican gave us the green light to start solids over a month ago. We tried unsuccessfully a few times since then. We gave it another shot the day after we returned from NH. We also set up their highchairs and let them try them out for the first time. I am not sure if the time was just right or the highchairs made the difference but the tide had turned. The babies were ready for solids!
Tommy is trying out his highchair for the first time.
Lily is ready.
But we aren't ready- furry toys need to be removed from the scene and bibs needs to be put on.
Let the fun begin! Mmmmm...rice cereal.
Let the mess begin!
The babies really enjoyed their rice cereal. We joked they were having breakfast for dinner (one of my personal favorites- breakfast for dinner, not rice cereal). They did great and weren't all that messy. They have been eating solids for nearly a week now and at this point both babies have distinct eating styles:
Lily likes to be involved- she guides the spoon right into her mouth and steals it from you if you aren't quick enough to block her attempt. She opens so wide and if you take too long getting her another spoonful she squeals in frustration. She is a vocal eater. She makes Mmmm sounds with ever bite like it is the best thing she's ever tasted. I guess it just might be...her palate is pretty limited at this point. I can't wait until she tries something that actually has a taste.
Tommy dives his whole head toward the spoon. His top lip almost always plows more than half of cereal on the spoon onto his face. But he likes to use his bib to wipe his face off between spoonfuls. Even though he makes a mess, he is a neat and patient eater. He seems to like it enough but certainly isn't as excited about rice cereal as his sister is.
It is certainly easier to feed the twins with a helper. One night Shaun had an appointment so I was on my own. I alternated one by one. Thankfully, Lily was willing to wait for brother to have some.
